Assign an agent review
For document owners working with agents, this guide explains how to assign a review and assess its results.
Create an assignment
- In your document, open Agent reviews.
- Select New review task.
- Enter a title and instructions.
- Select Create and copy handoff.
- Give the copied handoff to your agent.
The assignment records the document's saved starting version. Its dedicated suggest link lets the agent read, comment, and propose changes.
The handoff includes the assignment ID, instructions, scoped link, and CLI and MCP commands. Keep the link private. Anyone with the link can use its permissions until you revoke it.
An assignment tracks work that you initiate. AgentsMarkdown does not run the agent for you.
Track the review
The assignment moves through these states:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Assigned | The assignment exists, and the reviewer has not started it. |
| In progress | The reviewer started the assignment through its matching link. |
| Ready for review | The reviewer submitted a summary, reviewed version, and output IDs. |
| Closed | You closed the completed review or canceled an unfinished assignment. |
The panel updates when the reviewer starts or submits a report. Use Refresh to reload the assignments.
If the document changes after assignment or review, the panel shows the current version and a stale-version notice. An older report remains available for comparison.
Assess the report
- Open the assignment in Agent reviews.
- Read its summary and reviewed version.
- Select each comment or suggestion to inspect the associated output.
- Accept or reject suggestions through the document's review controls.
- Select Close review when your review is complete.
A report associates outputs with the assignment. It does not prove that the reporter authored those outputs. Every referenced output must belong to the same document.
The lifecycle records an authenticated account or agent ID when credentials identify the caller. A guest's chosen display name is labeled unverified.
End access
Closing or canceling an assignment preserves its report. It does not accept suggestions or revoke its link.
To end the reviewer's document access, revoke the link labeled Review: TITLE in Share. Replace TITLE with your assignment title.
Revocation prevents further reads and reports through that link. You can still inspect and close the assignment as the owner.
For shell and MCP workflows, see Review assignments with the CLI and Review assignment tools.
